Notes on building for the open web

The open web is not a nostalgia project. It is the only software platform that has survived four decades without an owner, and that is precisely why it is worth building on.

Every tool I make starts from the same constraint: it should be legible to the person using it. Not friendly, not gamified, legible. A control panel tells you what every switch does. Good software should do the same.

This means resisting the urge to hide state behind animation, to bury structure under chrome. The grid should be visible. The labels should be honest. The numbers should mean something.
